Author Ens. Joseph A. Eaton, U.S. Navy (Image(s) part of an album assembled by Ensign Joseph Eaton documenting his service during and after World War I. A native of Norwich, Connecticut, and a graduate of Tufts University, Joseph Eaton enrolled in the Navy on 16 March 1917, and after training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida, he received his wings as Naval Aviator Number 184 on 21 December 1917. He served overseas during World War I at NAS Felixstowe, England, and The Hague, and following the war spent time at NAS Anacostia, D.C. and Hampton Roads, Virginia. He resigned his commission in 1925 with the rank of lieutenant.)
