View of the Alexandre III bridge at the 1900 Paris World Fair. The bridge was named after the Tsar of Russia. His son Nicholas II reigned from 1894 until 1917, and symbolically laid the fundation stone of the bridge in 1896; the avenue leading to it on the right bank of the Seine(between the Grand and Petit Palais) was named avenue Nicolas II in his honor. The bridge is ornamented by four bronze sculptures on high socles; each sculpture represents Fame. The two sculptures on the left bank (on the foreground of the picture) represent the "Renomm?e du Commerce" (Fame of Commerce) and the "Renomm?e de l'Industrie" (Fame of Industry). The two other sculptures (in the background) are the "Renomm?e des Sciences" (Fame of the Sciences) and the "Renomm?e des Arts (Fame of the Arts).
